「太陽に歌って」(We’ll Sing in the Sunshine)はシンガー・ソングライター、ゲール・ガーネットの1964年のヒット曲です。

ゲール・ガーネット（Gale Garnett：1942-)はこの曲で1965年にグラミー賞を受賞しましたが、この曲の後はフォーク・ソングから離れてサイケデリック・サウンドを志向したり、サンセット７７、ハワイアン・アイ、ボナンザなどのテレビや映画への出演などを経て女優に転向、その後も一時芸能界から引退し、エッセイや小説などの執筆活動を続けていました。アメリカのポップス、フォークの一発屋というイメージで語られがちなゲール・ガーネットですが、実は多彩な才能の女性なのです。
「太陽に歌って」(We’ll Sing in the Sunshine)は現れた流れ者の女性がしばらく（1年だけ）滞在し、太陽の下で共に明るく歌いながら、恋に落ちることなく、また去ってゆくという内容の歌詞です。他人を元気付けることはできるけれども、その人の人生を変えるまでには関わらない、現代の一定の距離を保つ、人と人の関わりの一面を描いていて、明るい曲調の中に少しの苦味が効いています。また、この曲自体がゲール・ガーネットの人生を現しているようでもあり、忘れがたい曲です。こうした曲作りに見られる発想力ある豊かさ才能が後の彼女の作家活動を支えたのだとも思います。長い人の人生を「一発屋」などという言葉で表すことは私にはできません。
